Mashups are a fascinating trend where people add value to basic information by combining sources of information in new and sometimes compelling ways. Google maps is a common information source for mashups, as they combine it with other locality based data, such as census data.

There's a mashup "unconference" where the attendees determine the topics to be covered when they show up at the conference! http://www.mashupcamp.com/
